ADHD UNVEILED:A CONCISE OVERVIEW OF UNDERSTANDING,SYMPTOMS,DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), also known as Hyperkinetic Disorder, is a chronic neurodevelopmental condition affecting individuals' ability to focus, organize tasks, manage impulses, and regulate emotions. It primarily impacts children but often persists into adulthood, affecting academic, professional, and social performance. Despite its prevalence, ADHD is often misunderstood and stigmatized, hindering proper diagnosis and treatment. This article provides an overview of ADHD, its symptoms, etiology, and treatment options. An outline of ADHD pathophysiology, including dysfunction in brain networks and neurotransmitter pathways is discussed. Diagnosis relies on clinical assessment with presentation of at least five symptoms, and different scales are also used while treatment options include stimulant and non-stimulant medications, behavioural therapies, and exercise. Increased awareness and understanding of ADHD are crucial for improving individuals' quality of life and reducing stigma associated with the disorder.
