Summary. The development of tourism, which was beginning to take shape as a real industry, was also taken into account for the peri-urban area of Buzău. The constant growth of the city’s population, in parallel with the increase in the standard of living, allowed the development of tourism atthe local level. The most important tourist attraction of the area was the spa resort of Sărata Monteoru, where there were concentrated chlorine-sodium waters, containing chlorine and iodine, sulphurous waters and simple alkaline waters, which were used for various internal and external treatments.Pietroasele had tourist potential, due to the „Dealul Mare” vineyard and the historical monumentsfound in this area. Magura became important due to the organization of the outdoor sculpture camp.Although it was only at the second edition, this camp was already famous throughout the country.Among the historical monuments that had tourist potential were the old settlements, from the BronzeAge, the Iron Age and the Dacian period, discovered in the area of the communes of Vernești, VaduPașii, Smeeni, Țintești and Pietroasele, the necropolises of the II-III centuries, from the communesof Gherăseni and Costești, the fortresses of Vernești and Costești and the Roman castrum in thecommune of Pietroasele.
