Abutment-implant intermovement and corrosion. How the cone angle affects implant performance. An introduction to implant abutment connection classification, and the need to leave the platform switching concept behind and move forward
Stress shielding and Titanium corrosion are the main issues that stand behind all titanium implants. Current concepts of the biocompatibility are mostly limited to the surface of the used material, rather than the stiffness or other mechanical criteria. The hub and shaft region of the dental implants had many regions. The most important region is the cone region. Cone angle affects the mechanical response of the implant and the resultant corrosion. Fretting corrosion remain the main issue in metallic hardware. In this introductory paper, we had represented 6 models to assess most of the current implant systems depending on the cone angle. The results show clearly the well-approved clinical issues especially platform switching concept. More models are needed to discern the complete picture.
