INTEGRATING INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE WITH CRITICAL THINKING IN EFL INSTRUCTION
This comprehensive study examines the critical intersection between intercultural competence and critical thinking within English as a Foreign Language (EFL) pedagogy. Drawing upon contemporary theoretical frameworks and empirical research, the article presents a robust argument for the synergistic integration of these competencies in modern language education. The research synthesizes Byram's (1997) model of intercultural communicative competence with Paul and Elder's (2020) critical thinking framework to propose an innovative pedagogical approach that addresses the demands of 21st century global communication. Through extensive analysis of current literature and practical classroom applications, the study demonstrates how the combined development of intercultural awareness and critical analysis skills can significantly enhance EFL learners' communicative effectiveness and cultural adaptability. The paper concludes with evidence-based recommendations for curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment methods that effectively merge these essential competencies in diverse EFL contexts.
