Abstract: This study assesses the competitiveness of Malaysia and Indonesia, major pepper exporters in Southeast Asia, across ten key markets using shift-share analysis. It considers the National Share Effect which mirrors global demand shifts, the Industry Mix Effect arising from diverse export structures and the Regional Competitive Effect reflecting export growth disparities that signal market dominance shifts. The comparison across two periods reveals the complex interplay of market performance factors, emphasizing the importance of understanding these elements for devising robust export strategies.
