[Installation] Urban Recipes: Season Change
For millennia, seasons have influenced how humans migrate, shelter, and harvest food, shaping how we relate to time and place. Yet in the face of climate change, we are forced to cope with increasingly extreme weather events and, as a result, develop an altered sense of the canonical seasons. Urban Recipes is an ongoing research project that explores complex ecologies in the city. By combining the spatial experimentation of drifting with the recursive practice of recipe making, Urban Recipes destabilizes the quotidian and opens up a space for new ways of noticing and relating to both humans and nonhumans in everyday urban environments. As the newest installment of the ongoing series, Urban Recipes: Season Change presents a collection of recipes inspired by non-western traditions of seasonal rhythms, such as the Chinese 24 solar terms. Celebrating the Symbiocene in the lush BioArt Village, Urban Recipes: Season Change creates a site-specific installation in the form of a wishing tree. Curious audiences are invited to reflect on the effects of the climatic and seasonal change, while taking a stroll in Eindhoven’s Strijp and beyond.
