A Brief Discussion on Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Abstract This study reviews the academic literature on the causes and impacts of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), as well as the resistance and challenges encountered in clinical treatment, providing new therapeutic approaches for future clinical interventions. Individuals with NPD tend to exaggerate their self-importance, maintain a persistent focus on their self-image, lack empathy, and show insensitivity to the needs of others. NPD has profound negative effects on both individuals and society, influencing interpersonal relationships, mental health, and career development. The study suggests that when interacting with individuals with NPD, one should establish clear boundaries, avoid arguments or manipulation, maintain self-respect and emotional independence, and minimize the influence of NPD individuals on their own well-being.
