Peltogyne chrysopis Barneby, Brittonia

6. Peltogyne chrysopis Barneby, Brittonia 46: 270. 1994. Holotype:— BRAZIL. Bahia: Una, Reserva Biológica do Mico-Leão, próximo a Picada do Príncipe, 15 September 1993, A. M. A. Amorim 1382 (Holotype: CEPEC; Isotypes: K, MBM, MO, NY, R, RB!, SP, US). Fig 11. Tree, 10–25 m tall, bark smooth, greyish, branches blackish, stipules early deciduous. Leaflets oblong, not falcate, 7.5– 9 × 3.3–5.6 cm, base rounded, apex rounded, sometimes retuse, glabrous, wax absent on both surfaces, concolorous, petiole 15–21 mm long, petiolule 5–7 mm long, blade decurrent, pulvinus dilated, primary vein conspicuous on both sides, secondary veins conspicuous on both sides, glands absent. Inflorescence a panicle, subterminal, laxiflorous, rachis glabrous, 16–20 cm long, inserted in a non-aphyllous branch. Pedicel 2–4 mm long, bracteoles caducous, hypanthium absent. Bud 5 × 7 mm, sepals subtriangular, outer side pubescent, inner side pubescent, margin glabrous, glands present, petals elliptic to oblanceolate, unguiculate, glabrous, glands present. Stamens of equal size, filaments 5–7 mm long. Stipe glabrous, 1 mm long. Ovary semicircular to subtriangular, pubescent, 3–5 mm long, style with terminal insertion, 5–6 mm long. Fruit a legume, indehiscent, orbicular, without a protuberance, compressed, 2.5–3.1 × 2.5–2.8 cm, sessile, nectary disc not persistent, trichomes sparse, glands absent, veins present, winged. Phenology —Collected in flower between October and November and in fruit between November and January. Distribution and habitat— Peltogyne chrysopis has a restricted distribution in the Atlantic Forest of Bahia, mainly in dense forests (Fig 3). Taxonomic comments— Peltogyne chrysopis has a laxiflorous inflorescence, different from P. angustiflora, with which it is often confused, as the latter has a densiflorous inflorescence. P. chrysopis can also be confused with two other species: P. confertiflora, from which it differs by the absence of hypanthium and presence of elliptic buds, and P. pauciflora, from which it differs by having a pubescent ovary. Etymology— chrysopis, from the Greek, “golden face”, in reference to the Reserva do Mico-Leão-Dourado in Bahia, where P. chrysopis is common. Specimens examined — BRAZIL. Bahia: Conde Fazenda Bu, 8 November 1995, M. C. Ferreira 824 (ALCB!); Jandaíra, Fazenda Areia Branca, 29 November 2011, E. N.
