NASA's NCAS - Mission 2: Explore - Exploration Simulation | Selene Mission - GRC Purple
Mission Goal:The Selene Mission was created to design a rover that will explore the lunar surface in search of in-situ resources—materials that can help future astronauts live and work on the Moon. Our rover uses a Neutron Spectrometer System to find and measure hydrogen particles, which may be a sign of ice water hidden in the Moon's soil (regolith). Water is essential for life and can support: Drinking water for astronauts Power systems and oxygen generation Building sustainable habitats for long-term missions Why it matters: This mission supports the goals of Artemis 3, NASA's program to retrun humans to the Moon. By finding resources like water, Selene helps make it possible for astronauts to stay longer and prepare for future space exploration; including deep space missions to Mars. The rover design is inspired by technology being developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for future Moon missions. Our Vision: Selene is a student- designed mission that combines engineering, science, and teamwork. Our goal is to help future astronauts by giving them the tools and knwoledge they need to survive and thrive on the moon.
