Abstract: After the release of the first talkie film in Tamil, ‘Kalidas’, in 1934, the number of professional theatre groups started to decline, and Payinmuri theatre groups started to emerge in big cities like Chennai.Starting from Thiruvallikeni Fine Arts, which was started in 1941, Payinmuri theatre groups have been continuously performing plays in Chennai city till today. In that series, at the end of the twentieth century, another new theatre group was formed in 1998. It was the group started by Srivatsan.Srivatsan’s theatre journey, which lasted for 27 years from 1998 to 2025, was a sweet journey that led him to the ranks of world theatre figures. This article is a study of that journey and the recognition he received.
