Intelligent V2V and V2I Communication

Road traffic accidents remain a leading cause of injury and death worldwide, often resulting from hazards such as drunk driving, vehicle fires, sudden jerks, and mechanical failures. This work presents a low-cost, Arduino-based intelligent Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication safety system capable of detecting multiple in-car hazards in real time. The system includes alcohol detection using an MQ-3 sensor, fire hazard detection, sudden motion recognition via an MPU6050 accelerometer, and a manual breakdown alert button. When a hazard is detected, information is displayed on an LCD and wirelessly transmitted to nearby vehicles using a 433 MHz RF module. Receiving vehicles decode the messages using an RF receiver and display relevant warnings—such as “Driver Intoxicated” or “Fire Detected”—to alert nearby drivers and help them take timely preventive actions. The system is fully hardware-based, does not rely on internet connectivity, and is both cost-effective and easy to implement. Additionally, it offers flexibility for future expansion with GPS, GSM, or cloud-based integrations.
