Water – Health and Hydration: A Survey-Based Study on Its Importance and Consumption Patterns
Abstract: Water, an essential nutrient, is often overlooked in discussions on human nutrition. Despite awareness of daily intake recommendations, many fail to consume adequate water due to various factors which can lead to dehydration-related health concerns. This study investigates the relationship between water consumption and overall health, exploring how it contributes to hydration, and barriers to water intake. A structured questionnaire was administered online to the participants from diverse demographics to assess drinking patterns, public awareness of water's nutritional role, influencing factors and barriers to hydration. Several studies have indicated that many individuals may not meet the recommended intake levels. Factors such as forgetfulness, lack of time, or a preference for other beverages influence hydration practices. The study highlights the greater need for awareness and public health initiatives to promote optimal water consumption. Encouraging proper hydration may help reduce health risks associated with inadequate water intake
