Barriers to STEMI Management in Sudan A Systematic Review of Challenges in Low-Resource Settings

This systematic review investigates the barriers to ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) management in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a specific focus on Sudan. Utilizing PRISMA guidelines, 75 studies were included, with 50 contributing to quantitative synthesis. The review identified critical obstacles including limited access to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), workforce shortages, socio-economic barriers, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure. These barriers lead to delays in diagnosis, insufficient reperfusion therapy, and suboptimal post-acute care, significantly affecting patient outcomes. The findings emphasize the need for enhanced healthcare infrastructure, workforce training, and socio-economic support to improve STEMI management in resource-limited settings like Sudan. Addressing these issues through targeted interventions can substantially reduce mortality and enhance recovery rates in LMICs.
