From Synapse to Support: How Neuroscience can guide Educational Therapists & Counselors in Providing Better Mental Wellness & Behavior Therapy

Emotional regulation is a complex process involving intricate interactions across brain regions. It involves stress response system, neurotransmitter systems, and executive functions. Dysregulation of these interactions and processes underpins mood and emotional disorders (such as depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and bipolar disorders etc). These disorders impair the quality of life. This article explores the neurobiology foundations such as neurotransmitter imbalances, executive functions, structural and functional brain impairments etc underpinning these types of disorders which is crucial for the educational therapists and counselors to develop effective mental wellness and behavioural therapies for emotional and mood dysregulation that restore balance and promote resilience. By underscoring its importance of integrating neurobiological understanding into therapeutic strategies helps to promote sustained mental wellness and empowering individuals to make informed decision in their mental health.
