Auditory Rehabilitation and Transformation of Lives: Qualitative Study with Patients Using Cochlear Implants
DescriptionCochlear implants (CIs) are among the most impactful medical innovations for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss. This qualitative study analyzes the emotional, social, linguistic, and cognitive impacts of CIs across different life stages. Based on real clinical and biographical reports, the study explores the role of auditory rehabilitation, family involvement, and educational support in the success of cochlear implantation. The findings reveal that, beyond restoring hearing, CIs reconstruct identities, promote autonomy, and foster social inclusion. This research highlights the transformative power of sound when combined with a humanized, multidisciplinary approach.
