A Critical Review on Thermal Insulation Materials of Natural Fibre Composites
Abstract:The increasing global focus on energy efficiency and sustainable building practices hasdriven significant research into alternative thermal insulation materials. Natural FiberComposites (NFCs), leveraging the renewable and biodegradable nature of natural fibers, have emerged as promising candidates. This paper critically reviews the existing literature onNFCs used for thermal insulation applications. It examines the various types of natural fibersused, their processing techniques, composite formulations, and the resulting thermalperformance. The advantages and disadvantages of NFCs compared to conventionalinsulation materials are discussed, along with the challenges and opportunities for futureresearch and development in this field. The review highlights the potential of NFCs tocontribute to more sustainable and energy-efficient building practices while addressing thelimitations that hinder their widespread commercial adoption.
