PrePrint - Safeguarding DNA Integrity: The Critical Role of PPE in Preventing Contamination in Forensic Laboratories
This study examines the impact of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use on reducing contamination in forensic DNA laboratories. Across 20 labs and 600 samples analyzed over six months, contamination rates dropped from 30% with improper PPE use to 5% under strict protocols. Common errors—such as incorrect glove removal—were key contamination sources. The findings emphasize the critical importance of rigorous PPE adherence to preserve DNA integrity and ensure the reliability of forensic results.
