A Study on Indian Knowledge Systems and Their Applications in Rural Development for Empowering Tribal Communities in Dahanu taluka
Abstract: Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) play a vital role in shaping the socio-economic context of tribal communities. This study explores the application of IKS in rural development, predominantly in Dahanu Taluka, Maharashtra, where indigenous agricultural, medicinal, and educational practices remain vital. Using a quantitative approach with structured surveys through several tribal groups, the study observes the relationship between IKS and socio-economic development. The results reveal a significant influence belonging to traditional agriculture on income levels, indigenous health practices on well-being, and IKS on complete socio-economic progress. The Chi-square test confirms these associations, reinforcing the requirement of integrating IKS into formal rural development policies. The study highlights the essential for policy inclusion, documentation, training, and healthcare integration to preserve and leverage indigenous knowledge for sustainable growth. The investigation fills existing gaps by providing empirical evidence of IKS’s role in enhancing the livelihood of tribal communities whereas maintaining cultural heritage.
