Autonomous Finance

Autonomous Finance (AF) protocols utilize block chain technology to replicate traditional financial functions such as banking, investing, and trading, thereby fostering an ecosystem that supports the growth of decentralized financial services. These protocols serve as innovative financial instruments that can help reduce portfolio risk—an increasingly valuable feature in today’s volatile economic environment. A subset of these protocols employs delta-neutral strategies, offering automated and relatively low-risk opportunities for yield generation while minimizing exposure to market fluctuations. Unlike conventional financial systems, where valuation methods are well-established, Autonomous Finance lacks standardized frameworks for assessing protocol value. This research aims to explore and quantify the key performance indicators that influence the valuation of AF protocols, applying a range of empirical and analytical techniques. The study focuses on metrics such as total value locked (TVL), protocol revenue, total revenue, gross merchandise volume (GMV), and inflation factors to evaluate their impact on valuation. Data was gathered from 30 representative protocols across three major categories—decentralized exchanges, lending platforms, and asset management protocols. Findings indicate that while performance metrics do influence valuations, the strength and nature of these relationships vary significantly depending on the variable and protocol type.
