ORTHODOXY ON THE SECOND COMMANDMENT "DO NOT MAKE YOURSELF AN IDOL..."

The article is devoted to the Orthodox interpretation of the second commandment of the Decalogue, «Thou shalt not make unto thee any god». Based on the analysis of Orthodox theological literature, the concepts of «idol», «idolatry», and «icon veneration» are revealed. The article describes the sins that arise from an incorrect attitude towards icons. It is concluded that breaking the covenant leads to the corruption of the human soul and prevents one from knowing and communicating with God.

Abstract
