Leveraging DataCite Infrastructure: Assigning DOIs to Research Outputs, Resources, and Activities

The session, titled "Leveraging DataCite Infrastructure: Assigning DOIs to Research Outputs, Resources, and Activities," introduced the DataCite infrastructure and its role in supporting persistent identification in research. It covered practical approaches for assigning DOIs to a wide range of research outputs beyond traditional publications, including datasets, software, projects, and facilities through DataCite Fabrica. The presentation also emphasized the value of open metadata in increasing visibility, enabling tracking, and enhancing the impact of research activities.Mohamad Mostafa delivered this presentation during the International Workshop on Connecting and Empowering Research: Open Access, Open Data, and Research Metrics, organized by All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering and the INFLIBNET Centre, held in Pune, India, from 2–4 July 2025.
