ON THE MECHANISM OF CARBON ISOTOPE FRACTIONATION IN NATURAL DIAMOND FORMATION

Abstract One of the peculiarities of natural diamond crystals is discussed, which is that the numerical ratios of 13C/12C isotopes depend on the depth of diamond formation in nature. The quantum mechanical model provides physical insights into the phenomenon of carbon isotope fractionation in diamond depending on changes in temperature, pressure, and electric field strength. It is shown that with an increase in the value of these parameters, the degree of stability of chemical assemblies is significantly higher for the isotopes of 13C.
