Micronutrients utilization level among pregnancy women attending MCH centers in Yaqshiid district, Mogadishu-Somalia

Abstract Micronutrient utilization plays a vital role in ensuring maternal health and positive pregnancy outcomes. This study assesses the level of micronutrient utilization among pregnant women attending Maternal and Child Health (MCH) centers in Yaqshiid District, Mogadishu, Somalia. The research examines factors influencing accessibility, awareness, and common micronutrient deficiencies among pregnant women. Using a cross-sectional study design, data was collected through surveys and interviews with pregnant women and healthcare professionals. The findings indicate that iron, folic acid, and vitamin D deficiencies are prevalent, with many women lacking awareness of the benefits of micronutrient supplementation. Despite the availability of supplements, utilization rates remain low due to misinformation, economic barriers, and inadequate healthcare accessibility. The study highlights the need for targeted health education campaigns, improved supplement distribution strategies, and stronger policy interventions to enhance maternal nutrition. Recommendations include increasing public awareness, integrating micronutrient education into antenatal care, and strengthening healthcare systems to ensure adequate supply and accessibility of essential nutrients. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare providers, and organizations working to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Somalia.
