Deliverable D4.4 Training report including training materials

Task 4.4 of the DIAMAS project focused on developing a comprehensive training programme for journal editors and Institutional Publishing Service Providers (IPSP) across the European Research Area (ERA). The training programme addresses skill gaps identified in earlier project phases, with an aim to support IPSPs in adopting the Diamond Open Access Standard (DOAS, Consortium of the DIAMAS project 2024) and strengthen institutional Diamond OA publishing practices. The design of the programme began in June 2023 (month 10 of the project) and was led by OpenEdition. The task drew upon prior DIAMAS outputs — specifically the Toolsuite (Armengou et al., 2024i) and Guidelines (Armengou et al., 2024ii) — repackaging them into a modular, self-paced online training workflow. The programme comprises 34 training materials, including recordings of two webinars (see chapter 4) to onboard users on the platform. The training materials are organised into 14 courses – a course that introduces the training pathway, and 13 courses focusing on the elements of DOAS. The programme is hosted on a Moodle installation which is part of the DIAMAS Common Access Point (CAP), and can be accessed at https://training.diamas.org/. It is primarily intended for learners at an elementary level, aiming to provide a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of Diamond OA publishing. Diverse learning approaches have been used, including interactive courses, infographics, simulated conversations and self-reflection tools, delivered mainly in H5P (an open-source tool for creating interactive HTML5 content) and PDF formats. The materials have been designed for easy adaptation, which is anticipated as part of the ongoing enhancement and expansion of the training programme. The programme is currently available in English, with translations into other European languages planned to reach a wider audience and ensure broader accessibility. The sections of this report provide a detailed account of the methodology and task outcomes. The report outlines the conceptual framework that guided the implementation, its relevance to prior DIAMAS deliverables, the writing process, and the instructional design methodology employed in developing the training programme. It also focuses on the platform’s architecture and content, and describes the deployment process - including technical specifications, design choices, and user pathways. Additionally, it addresses the challenges encountered and the solutions implemented to mitigate them, and discusses the next steps and sustainability considerations for the content and technical infrastructure.
