DEVELOPING RUBRICS FOR ASSESSING LEXICAL COMPETENCE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNERS
Assessing lexical competence is a critical aspect of language education, especially for middle school learners. Rubrics provide a structured and transparent way to evaluate students’ vocabulary skills, ranging from word knowledge to contextual usage. This paper explores the importance of lexical competence, outlines the key components of effective rubrics, and provides a framework for developing and implementing rubrics tailored to middle school learners. Emphasis is placed on clarity, fairness, and alignment with learning objectives. This approach ensures not only accurate assessment but also promotes students' language development.
