A REVIEW ON NANOEMULSION RECENT INNOVATONS IN LIQUID DOSAGE FORM

This topic provides an overview of Nanoemulsion which is a system consisting of oil, surfactant and an aqueous phase, which is an isotropically clear and thermo-dynamically or kinetically stable liquid solution, usually with droplet diameter within the range of 10 - 500 nm. It not only improves the conventional emulsion systems but also opens new opportunities for other drugs to be designed more precisely with better bioavailability and accurate dosing leading to minimum side effects. This review aims to provide consolidated information regarding various formulation and characterization techniques developed for nanoemulsions. Various characterization techniques for nanoemulsion include determination of particle size, photon correlation spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, phase behavior study and transmission electron microscopy etc. Nanoemulsions are further evaluated by studying in vitro drug release, stability, viscosity, refractive index, and pH etc. Correspondingly, an overview of characterisation technologies to differentiate between the micro and nanoemulsions – alongside their benchmarks in terms of their physical and thermodynamic stabilities, is also described in this review.
