ECOLOGICAL NETWORKS AS A TOOL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION: A REVIEW ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN BABASSU (Attalea speciosa Mart Ex. Spreng) AND PSITTACIDS IN THE EASTERN AMAZON
Despite the short period of human existence, humans' relationship with the Earth is at risk due to the accelerating pace of environmental degradation caused by human activities. The babassu (A. speciosa) is one of the organisms that can proliferate in modified human landscapes and become a super-dominant species, reducing plant diversity and the availability of plant foods. Changes resulting from human disturbances are becoming more frequent and threaten biodiverse tropical ecosystems such as the Amazon region. Studies are therefore needed to investigate the influence of the dominance of winning species on communities, as well as to understand the consequences of these transformations. In this context, the aim of this study is to expand knowledge about the dominance of babassu over the psittacine community in tropical rainforest areas and to identify the main plant species that attract these birds. Keywords: Plant-animal interaction; Palm tree; Birds; Tropical rainforest.
