Decentralized Medical Record Sovereignty: A Hyperledger Fabric Implementation for Elderly Healthcare
Abstract - As healthcare records become more digitized, the privacy, security and patient sovereignty of data stored by healthcare agencies is putting senior citizens who require continuous medical attention on alert. The current centralized systems are open to intrusion, use, unauthorized access, and data sharing inefficiency [1]. The decentralized medical record management system, with Hyperledger Fabric, is proposed in this paper in order to offer the elderly patients their data sovereignty, security and accessibility. Permissioned blockchain architecture is integrated in the proposed system to secure, tamper proof medical records according to access control governed by smart contracts [2]. It additionally includes a designed Flutter based mobile app to give access to medical records with ease through biometric authentication coupled with a REST API gateway integrating with the blockchain network. The solution includes consent management mechanisms that allow elderly patients to control which medical data can be accessed. Thanks to Hyperledger Fabric’s privacy-preserving features, this system allows healthcare providers for interoperability while complying with the regulatory standards. This paper shows the implementation of better data integrity, security and transparency; hence paving the ground for future deployment of the patient centric healthcare.
