ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: ITS EFFECT TO ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF GENERAL ACADEMIC STRAND IN MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY-SULU
This study explores the effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the academic performance of Grade 11 General Academic Strand (GAS) students at Mindanao State University–Sulu. Utilizing a quantitative approach, 108 students participated in a survey assessing their perceptions of AI, levels of academic performance, gender-based differences in AI usage, and the correlation between AI use and grades. The findings revealed that students have a generally positive perception on AI, appreciating its ability to personalize learning and provide immediate feedback. The average academic performance of students was rated as "Very Satisfactory" with a mean grade of 88.46%. However, the study identified no significant gender-based difference in AI usage. More notably, statistical analysis indicated a weak but significant negative correlation between AI usage and academic performance, suggesting that increased dependence on AI may lead to a slight decline in academic outcomes. The study highlights the need for balanced and mindful integration of AI tools in education to support, rather than replace, essential learning processes.
