Evaluating College Students' Awareness and Utilization of Natural Language Generation AI in Private Higher Education Institutions of Koronadal City, Philippines

This study examines the level of awareness and utilization of Natural Language Generation (NLG) AI tools, specifically ChatGPT, Bing, and Gemini, among college students in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, Philippines. Using a descriptive correlational research design, data were gathered from 68 students across various higher education institutions through a semi-structured survey. The study explored students' knowledge of NLG AI functionalities, training processes, data handling, and applications. Results revealed a moderate to high level of awareness, with ChatGPT being the most commonly used tool. Students frequently employed NLG AI for academic purposes, including text generation and productivity enhancement. Simple linear regression analysis indicated a significant positive relationship between awareness and utilization, suggesting that students with higher awareness levels are more likely to use these tools. The findings highlight the importance of promoting AI literacy to maximize the benefits of NLG technology in academic settings. This study offers valuable insights into the role of awareness in NLG AI tool usage among students.
