ORAL HORMONAL CONTRACEPTIVES AND VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM: A NARRATIVE REVIEW
Introduction. This research focuses on the relationship between oral hormonal contraceptives (OCHOs) and venous thromboembolism, specifying the types of OCHOs and their potential risks for developing venous thrombosis. Objective. Know the influence of oral hormonal contraceptives on the incidence of venous thrombosis in women of reproductive age and understand the action of estrogen and progesterone present in ACHOs on coagulation and hemostasis factors. Methods. This is a narrative review based on articles selected after searching the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Google Scholar, Federal Nursing Council (COFEN) manuals and technical opinions, U.S. National Library of Medicine PUBMED and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. Results. It was found that the relationship between oral hormonal contraceptives and venous thromboembolism is due to the compound ethinylestradiol, which is capable of altering physiological coagulation factors. Conclusion. The study concludes with the finding that OCAHs influence the addition of venous thromboembolism and the essential role of primary care nurses in preventing this pathology, perpetuating the ongoing study of the subject.
