Evaluation of Ground Water Quality and Its suitability for drinking purpose in Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh
Abstract: This study focuses on the evaluation of groundwater quality using analytical and geographical information system (GIS) for prospecting suitable groundwater sites in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh for drinking purposes. A total of fifty samples were collected from different locations in the study area, and physicochemical parameters were analyzed using standard methods mentioned in Adoni et al., 1985 and American Public Health Association (APHA), 2005.The obtained results were compared World Health Organization (WHO) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Results show that Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Hardness (TH), Mg2+, Fluoride and Cl- are found to be higher than permissible limit when compared with the guidelines of the WHO and BIS.The WQI values in the study area ranged from 47.41 to 489.39. The overall WQI clearly indicates that the groundwater quality in Mathura district is in the poor category as far as potable water for human consumption is concerned.
