FORMING A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK FOR DEVELOPMENT BASED ON THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs)

Abstract This study focuses on sustainable development based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) formulated by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 to be achieved by 2030 which aims to guarantee sustainable development and human well-being. The objective of this study is to examine the level of knowledge of the community and Local Authorities regarding sustainable development and analyze the factors that affect sustainable development in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia, namely Perlis, Kedah and Penang. This is a quantitative study using questionnaires to collect data from 150 public respondents and 150 respondents consisting of the Local Authority staff from Perlis, Kedah and Penang. The findings of the study reveal although there is a high level of awareness regarding sustainable development among the community and Local Authority staff, there is still a need to enhance understanding of the SDGs. Issues of poverty and the cost of living remain major challenges, while satisfaction with clean water and community safety shows promising potential.
