Integrating Learning-Management-System and Turnitin Feedback Studio AI-Tools to Improve Biology Assessments at Colleges of Education in North-West, Nigeria

Abstract This study examines how integrating Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Turnitin Feedback Studio AI tools affects biology assessment practices in Nigerian Certificate in Education programs. Given issues like large class sizes, resource constraints, and concerns about academic integrity, there is an urgent need for creative assessment solutions. The study used a mixed-methods approach, gathering quantitative data from student assessments conducted before and after the intervention and qualitative data from interviews with biology educators. Two colleges in Northwest Nigeria were selected for the study. The experimental group received instruction using the LMS platform (Moodle) to deliver classes, conduct assessments, and receive comprehensive feedback on written assignments and plagiarism detection. The conventional lecture group was assessed via tests using paper and pencil. According to the results, the experimental group students' performance on biology tests improved (t = 5.48, p < 0.05), which was explained by the LMS's individualized learning pathways and prompt feedback. Furthermore, there is no statistically significant difference in post-test results between males and females (P = 0.268 ˃ 0.05), and biology teachers believe AI-driven tools are better for workload reduction, time savings, and grading accuracy, but the traditional approach is simpler to include. Investing in digital infrastructure, training teachers, and creating regulations to encourage the long-term use of these resources are some of the recommendations. Keywords: Integrating, AI Tools, Improve, Biology, Assessment.
