From Measured to Trusted: Documenting Geometric Reliability in 3D Heritage Assets
This abstract was submitted for consideration to CHNT 2025. It introduces a framework for expressing the geometric reliability of 3D digitised assets, extending the transparency principles typically applied to reconstructed elements to the acquired geometry itself. The contribution builds on a previously developed taxonomy of mesh flaws in Cultural Heritage digitisation workflows, mapping typical flaw types and their remediation strategies onto a progressive scale of intervention. The proposed “Reliability Scale” reflects both the technical and interpretative weight of corrective actions applied to 3D surfaces. It is designed to support transparency, accountability, and epistemic traceability, in line with the principles of the London Charter and the Seville Principles. This is a draft version intended for early dissemination. The full paper is under preparation and will include detailed case studies and implementation strategies.
