Enterprise Portfolio Management as a Strategic Enabler of Digital Transformation
Abstract The rapid pace of technological change requires organizations to adapt swiftly and effectively. However, many digital transformation initiatives struggle due to scarce resources, misalignment with business objectives, and a lack of reliable metrics for measuring success. Enterprise Portfolio Management (EPM) addresses these challenges by ensuring that digital transformation efforts align with business strategy, optimize resource utilization, manage risks, and provide real-time performance tracking. This paper examines how EPM enforces digital transformation strategy by enabling strategic alignment, resource optimization, risk management, performance measurement, and agile decision-making. Additionally, it explores common barriers such as resistance to change and data access limitations. A use case is presented to illustrate best practices for implementing EPM in digital transformation, including defining clear objectives, selecting scalable tools, fostering collaboration, managing change effectively, and continuously evaluating performance. The findings argue that EPM is a foundational capability that allows organizations to achieve not only successful digital transformation but also the sustained delivery of long-term value. By embedding EPM in their strategic framework, organizations can enhance competitiveness and remain resilient in an increasingly digital world.
