The ancient Tamils, with their ecological perspective, realized that if trees are protected, they will not die. The ancient Tamils, who had the concept of ‘Paddy is life and water is life’, were determined that trees should be cut only for ploughing and sacrifice, and therefore they destroyed only a few types of trees. Only trees like sandalwood, vakulam, akil, venkai, vikasi, and surapunnai were destroyed for cultivation. Sandalwood trees were used to rub their hands against the heat during the time of the Thinai Punakaval to ward off birds and to avoid the heat. It is necessary to capture and show the good thoughts expressed in Kurunthogai, one of the works of the ancient Tamils who led such an ecologically natural life.
