BLACK CRITICAL PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT AND SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES
Black parental involvement in special education is understudied but is critical in addressing systemic disparities in education. The literature highlights a negative correlation between Black parental involvement and special education services strengthening the need for access and support. This study aimed to bridge the gap between Black parental involvement and the knowledge of special education services by examining the challenges Black parents face. This research examines Dr. Marchand’s Critical Parental Engagement Scale and the barriers to receiving special education services. The planned logistic regression could not be completed due to limited sample size and time. However, a descriptive statistical analysis was conducted. The findings partially suggested that parents who are more involved will have a child with an IEP.
