THEIA-XR: Design Guidelines and Validation Reports for Privacy (First Version) (D7.3)

The document outlines the first outcomes from Task T7.4: "Definition of Privacy Guidelines.,”Design guidelines and validation reports for privacy (first version)”. This task builds on the work presented in D2.3, which focused on identifying privacy requirements related to the project. The guidelines were developed based on the identified requirements, an extensive analysis of relevant literature on the principles of designing for accountable and ethical Extended Reality (XR), additional steps taken to validate the developed technologies against current industrial benchmarks for ethical work, transparency, and privacy, and paradigms and findings from co-design sessions with end-users and stakeholders, which relate to the development of privacy and ethics control mechanisms (described in details in D2.3 and D3.3). We designed these guidelines to be applicable in the context of designing XR solutions for industrial work, primarily involving off-highway machinery. The results of this deliverable will prompt further privacy-related considerations in the project, informing the assessment criteria in D6.7.”Privacy assessment results”. It will also be updated based on ongoing work with project stakeholders and summarized in the report of D7.6 “Design guidelines and validation reports for privacy (final version)”, which will include the validation reports for privacy and ethics with internal project stakeholders and external auditory (via receiving feedback from the broader industry of Off-Highway Machinery). The document comprises the following sections: a) an overview of current approaches to ethical and security guidelines in XR b) an outline of the challenges in developing of XR solutions for off-highway machinery; c) a set of guidelines focused on privacy and ethical considerations in XR projects, derived from elicited privacy requirements and values considerations and developed in collaboration with stakeholders. The validation procedures and validation report will be presented in the D7.6 “Design guidelines and validation reports for privacy (final version).
