EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: THE NEED OF THE HOUR FOR MITIGATING THE EFFECT OF WORK STRESS ON WORK PERFORMANCE-A COMPREHENSIVE RESEARCH ANALYSIS

Abstract The year 1990 saw the initial mention of the term "Emotional Intelligence" (EI) in academic journals. Both the number of studies conducted on EI and the number of models developed in this area have grown dramatically since then. Recently, the idea of "emotional intelligence" (EI) has gained a lot of attraction in the business world. The subject has recently exploded in popularity, affecting even organizational psychologists. This study compiles and synthesizes research on the following topics: the role of emotional intelligence as a moderator between stress at work and performance on the job; how to reduce the negative impact of stress at work on performance on the job; and how to perform well under pressure.
