Wstępne badania nad pszczołami (Hymenoptera: Apiformes) w rejonie Opływu Motławy w Gdańsku

The preliminary results of research conducted in July 2024 along the Opływ Motławy in Gdańsk are presented. The Opływ Motławy is a former city moat, created between 1619 and 1636 for fortification and defence purposes. A total of 50 summer bee species (474 individuals) from six families were recorded. Additional notes are provided for rare species. The species composition by functional groups is as follows: solitary species – 62%, eusocial – 28%, cleptoparasites – 10%; polylectic species – 78%, oligolectic – 12%; ground-nesting bees – 48%, cavity-nesting – 26%, hive-nesting – 16%; small bees – 38%, medium-sized – 54%, large – 8%. Four endangered taxa were found: Andrena alfkenella Hylaeus cornutus, H. gredleri, and H. pictipes. Additionally, six partially protected taxa in Poland were recorded: Bombus hortorum, B. humilis, B. lapidarius, B. pascuorum, B. sylvarum, and Terrestribombus. Despite its location in a highly urbanised area near Gdańsk city centre, the Opływ Motławy area provides valuable habitats for a diverse bee community, offering pollination services as well as opportunities for ecological education and public engagement.
