The Challenges of the Internet of Things in Niger in 2025

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological revolution that is transforming economic, social, and environmental dynamics on a global scale through the innovations it enables. In Niger, a developing country with still limited digital infrastructure, the adoption of IoT represents both a strategic opportunity and a complex challenge to address. This article explores the major challenges related to the implementation of IoT in Niger, including insufficient telecommunications infrastructure, energy constraints, high access costs, data security issues, and the low level of technological adoption. Furthermore, it highlights the promising prospects offered by IoT in key sectors such as Smart Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Municipal Management (hygiene, waste, lighting, etc.), Public Health, and Education. Through an analysis based on local case studies and international examples, this article provides recommendations for a sustainable and inclusive adoption of IoT in Niger, while taking into account the socio-economic and cultural realities of the country.
