Introduction to Long-Term Preservation

These slides introducing digital preservation (also called long-term preservation and long-term archiving) were presented in the workshop “Long Term Data Issues: Workshop about Preservation, Archiving and Access in the NFDI” (National Research Data Infrastructure, Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur, NFDI). The workshop was organized by NFDI working group Long Term Archival and Access. The slide deck contains exemplary cases of data loss, defines digital preservation (with references to various digital preservation initatives), introduces the "Object Levels of Preservation" model, relevant metadata standards, preservation policies and certification in the context of digital preservation.
