Mangroves: Nature's Guardians against Coastal Resilience and Biodiversity
Mangroves are unique intertidal ecosystems which serve as critical buffer between land and sea, offering ecological, social and economic benefits. This paper dwells into their multi-faceted role and emphasises their significance in coastal protection, biodiversity, conservation and climate change mitigation. Mechanisms like wave energy dissipation, sediment stabilization and storm surge mitigation are explored. Case studies of Sunderbans, Mekong Delta and Florida are discussed in brief. This study examines the threats like urbanization, aquaculture and climate change induced changes in temperature and salinity. Various strategies like policies, initiatives and implementations are critically analysed for the preservation of mangroves. Through this research paper, the authors like to highlight the various scientific insights, practical approaches and collaborative actions which address the threats and harness the potential of mangroves as nature’s guardians against environmental challenges.
