DEVELOPING CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING SOCIOCULTURAL COMPETENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL LEARNERS
Sociocultural competence is an essential skill in the development of primary school learners, particularly in today’s globalized, multicultural educational environments. It refers to the ability of students to understand, appreciate, and interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. This paper explores the concept of sociocultural competence and emphasizes the importance of creating effective rubrics to feedback this competency in primary school learners. The development of such rubrics involves establishing clear criteria, identifying specific observable behaviors, and promoting inclusive practices. This article provides a framework for teachers to assess sociocultural competence, outlines the benefits of such real-time, and discusses challenges faced in creating and implementing these rubrics. The discussion also addresses the potential impact of sociocultural competence on the overall development of primary school students, particularly in fostering an inclusive and harmonious learning environment.
