Eficacia del plasma rico en plaquetas para el tratamiento del síndrome genitourinario en pacientes menopáusicas.

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause is a condition that includes atrophic symptoms and signs experienced in the vulvovaginal and bladder-urethral areas due to the loss of sexual steroids that occurs with menopause. The objective of the research was to evaluate the efficacy of Platelet Rich Plasma for the treatment of genitourinary syndrome in menopausal patients. Quasi-experimental research, with a sample of 60 patients, who attended a private institution in Maracaibo, Zulia State. The Female Sexual Function Index structured in six domains was applied as an evaluation instrument: Desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, pain. The Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the results. The mean age was 56.9 ± 6.57 years. The average time of menopause varied from 4.1 ± 1.26 years. Improvement was shown in all domains studied (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain); the pain domain was lower in patients over 60 years of age and with more than 5 years of menopause. The pretreatment ISFS score variation ranged between 16.31 ± 3.07, broken down into 53 moderate scores, 6 poor scores and 1 good score. Subsequently, an average variation of 23.08 ± 3.11 was obtained with 35 good individual scores, 23 moderate scores, 2 very good scores and none poor scores. The main adverse effect was pain during application (45.0%). It was concluded that platelet-rich plasma is safe, effective and low-cost as minimally invasive monotherapy for genitourinary syndrome of menopause.
