Charting the Landscape of Decentralized Finance after Global Financial Crisis: A Bibliometric Review of Current Knowledge
Abstract: Decentralized Finance is the transformation of traditional financial products into products that operate without an intermediary through smart contracts on a blockchain. This study aims to carry out a bibliometric analysis to give a complete picture and identify potential areas of inquiry to add to the body of knowledge presently accessible. This study performed bibliometric analysis from the Scopus databases which is published through 2009-2022 after the global financial crisis period. The paper consists of the combination of descriptive bibliometric analysis and bibliometric network analysis technique through Biblioshiny of “R” and “VOSviewer” software. The result highlights the descriptive information about DeFi research, annual paper production, top journals, top cited documents global and local, most relevant authors, leading institutions, highly productive and cited country and top keywords. Findings also provide network analysis on different basis like co-occurrence, co-authorship, bibliographic coupling and co-citation. This bibliometric review not only maps the academic research on DeFi but also informs practical strategies for a wide range of stakeholders, including regulators, investors, innovators, and financial institutions, helping them navigate and harness the transformative potential of DeFi in the post-global financial crisis era. This study makes a contribution to the field by evaluating the current state of the art of research on the utilization and use of Decentralized Finance in identifying research gaps, and by offering a suggested course of action for future study in the area.
