A Study on Invisible Money: How Digital Payments Influence Consumer Spending Behaviour

The rapid adoption of digital payment systems has transformed the landscape of consumer transactions, leading to significant shifts in spending behavior. This paper explores the psychological and behavioral effects of "invisible money"—non-cash payment methods such as mobile wallets, contactless cards, and online payment platforms—on consumer decision- making. Drawing on behavioral economics, psychology, and recent empirical studies, the research examines how the reduced salience of money in digital transactions can lead to increased spending, lower pain of paying, and changes in financial self-control. By analyzing data and trends, the paper highlights both the opportunities and risks presented by the digitalization of money, emphasizing the need for consumer awareness and policy responses to ensure responsible financial behavior in the digital era. Keywords: “Digital Payment, Spending Behavior, Impulsive Buying, Cashless Effect”
