Influence of community involvement on implementation of international Non- Governmental Organization funded projects in Mogadishu, Somalia

Abstract This thesis explores the effect of strong monitoring and evaluation (M&E) practices on state economics and resources, with a specific focus on Somalia. In recent years, the importance of effective M&E in governance and policy implementation has gained significant attention. By systematically collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, M&E systems provide valuable insights into the performance and effectiveness of policies and programs. This information enables policymakers and stakeholders to make informed decisions, optimize resource allocation, and improve the overall economic performance of the state. The study aims to investigate the relationship between robust M&E frameworks and their impact on various aspects of state economics, including fiscal management, economic growth, and resource allocation efficiency. The research employs a cross-sectional descriptive survey design, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative datacollection methods. The study area focuses on Hargeisa and Borama, two major cities in Somalia, representing different economic contexts and resource management strategies. Data were collected through structuredquestionnaires distributed to key stakeholders involved in state economics and resource management activities. The analysis includes correlation and regression analyses to explore the relationships between M&E practices and economic indicators. The findings reveal that organizations with strong M&E systems report higher GDP growth rates, improved resource allocation efficiency, and greater economic stability. The study also identifies keychallenges in implementing effective M&E practices, such as limited financial resources, lack of technical expertise, and inadequate stakeholder engagement. The thesis concludes that robust M&E practices significantly influence economic performance and resource management within states. The findings underscore the importance of investing in M&E capacity building, enhancing data quality assurance, fostering stakeholder engagement, and promoting data-driven decision-making. By addressing these challenges and implementing the recommendations provided, policymakers and practitionerscan enhance the effectiveness of M&E systems, leading to better economic outcomes and sustainabledevelopment. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on effective governance and evidence-based decision- making, providing valuable insights for improving M&E practices and fostering sustainable development in Somalia and beyond.
