INFLUENCE OF BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS ON THE EFFICIENCY OF COMPOSTING LEAF LITTER FROM DIFFERENT TYPES OF TREES

Abstract An environmentally friendly way to utilize plant waste that accumulates in parks and gardens is to compost it using decomposing microorganisms. The biopreparations Polibact (a microbial preparation based on cellulose-destroying, nitrogen-fixing, phosphate-mobilizing microorganisms) and PoliFunCur (a biofertilizer based on aerobically fermented bird droppings and an effective nitrogen-fixing bacterial strain of microorganisms), developed at the Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, were used to compost leaf litter from various tree species growing in the Central Botanical Garden in Minsk (Belarus). The combined use of biopreparations and their use with soil during composting of leaf litter from trees of different species contributes to an increase in the moisture content of the composted mass by 28 and 49%, an increase in its biogenicity by 37 and 110%, an increase in the number of microorganisms that assimilate mineral forms of nitrogen by 15.4 and 38.0% and ammonify by 4.0 and 86.2%, activation of the microbiological transformation of organic matter by 1.3 and 86.7 times, and acceleration of its mineralization processes by 74 and 77% compared to the control, respectively. It has been established that the activity of the process of microbiological transformation and mineralization of organic matter of composted plant mass depends on the tree species and the type of treatment (biological preparations, biological preparations together with soil), which have a significant positive effect on these processes, accelerating them and ensuring the utilization of plant waste and the production of organic fertilizer available to plants.
